Access & safety

Public access

Iconic 1875 Victorian Gothic CSX/B&O station — still active as a MARC Brunswick Line stop. The platform sits at the Y-junction where CSX's Old Main Line and Metropolitan Sub converge along the Potomac. Public access to platform and the surrounding park; Amtrak Capitol Limited passes (does not stop).

Safety notes

The junction is active CSX trackage. Stay on the platform and the public park lawn — do not cross to the river-side or onto the second main. The Potomac is right there; be aware of slippery footing after rain.

Parking

MARC commuter lot at the station — free outside AM peak. Limited spaces; arrive early on weekends if photographing the heritage building.

Best time of day

Late afternoon for west-facing shots of the station building; mid-morning for east-facing river-side views.

Train frequency

Moderate — MARC Brunswick Line weekday peak service. CSX freight on both junction legs is continuous, often 25-40 trains/day combined. Capitol Limited passes once each direction daily.

Nearby

Point of Rocks has minimal services. Brunswick (~6 miles east) has restaurants. C&O Canal towpath access nearby.
