Riverside-Downtown Metrolink station platform overlooks the BNSF San Bernardino Sub mainline. Several blocks south, BNSF and UP routes diverge through the city — public sidewalks along Main St and 14th St give multiple legal viewing angles.

Safety notes

Station platform is public. Downtown streets are walkable but mind traffic when crossing tracks at grade crossings. UP Riverside Yard a few blocks south is private property.

Metrolink station has paid public parking. Downtown Riverside has metered street parking + several public garages.

Best time of day

Morning best for east-facing platform shots; the BNSF main runs roughly E-W through Riverside.

Train frequency

Very high — BNSF San Bernardino Sub carries the bulk of LA-area intermodal traffic. Metrolink IEOC + 91/Perris Valley Lines run frequent weekday service. Amtrak Southwest Chief passes daily.
